MY Little Jems

MY Umberto V
Season is almost over, last week we cruised for few days and so far this is the best place we anchored off for lunch just west of St Tropez.
We were 3 yachts cruising together and I had to cook lunch for the family….my famous tomato basil sauce which I add some capers and sun dried tomatoes. No photos as soon it came out I served it asap.
Still busy…
….too many stories to share, but just busy

too many cooks… Ben, Clive and Mick these 3 men I work and live with, this was taken when we were in Trogir, Croatia.
I went out with Clive to check the market and indeed it was full of bounty of the sea. We bought some mussels.
The mussels are cooked with lots of ginger, garlic, cream and the aroma just wafted around our crew mess.
We left Venice on July 6th and was along the Dalmatian and Adriatic Coast of Croatia.
In Venice I discovered the famous Mercato Rialto and that will take a whole long story to share.

CROATIA…Brijuni is a national park… this is where Tito spent summers. But on this photo I have been watching this man drop cages not nets… I guess to trap crabs or lobsters. I told the boys to keep an eye on him when he gets back and we will offer what he caught. But we had to move to another bay, we had to pay penalty for dropping anchor here.

Venezia, Italia
…La Serenissima, the Queen of Adriatic, the city of canals and palaces. And on the 7th day of our passage we finally arrived on such magnificent place to be especially when the yacht is moored not far from St Mark’s Square.

Captain Ben’s Spaghetti alla Vongole

Ben said we have been eating too much meat lately…. hmm and I said we are in Italy lets enjoy as much as we could the seafood after all when the family comes, we dont have the luxury to enjoy a decent quite meal let alone seafood or shell fish.
We are kosher well almost when the family around.
When we were in Santo Stefano, I bought 3 big bream which I placed inside the oven covered with tomato, courgettes, spring onions, parsley and garlic then slowly roasted in the oven.
we did not sit down together to eat, let alone take photogragh, the boat was heaving on high meter swells.
Other than the bream I also got some squids. I was thinking of frying it the way Stel did hers.. with almonds, but can’t find almonds, then I thought of saffron but we got no saffron. (Speaking of saffron my kitchen full of saffron brought by a friend from Baku, Azerbaijan)
Was thinking of adding curry on the flour, no curry either.

Greengrocer at Vibo Valentia, Italy

After another ride over the swells when we left Naples, we arrived at Vibo Valentia of the Calabrian region of Southern Italy.
As soon we were done with the wash down and clean up, I told the crew we need to get some fruits and wine for our clams.
Came along Mick and Ben… this photo is what I call just the moment of spontaneousity.
I just paid our shopping when I stepped out this man was bundling courgettes flowers. Sun was setting down and he was below a canvas… did not even have time to set my camera. I just clicked wishing for a good photo.
Indeed ah oh he gave me a smile.
More of clams on next post we will be up 530am tomorrow will cross the Strait of Messina to the other side of Italy. Few more days to Venice and perhaps few more days of big swells.

La Maisons des Desserts, Namur, Belgium
and yet another story that has been sitting on the draft
charming post box
Whats Namur?
A town or village?I kept saying I really do not know, but my husband went on asking.. What made you choose the place? Well I said it’s a town on the east side of the autobahn when we turn right to head for Luxemburg. He must be tired we set off from St Albans, UK at 630am to arrive at Dover by 8am and we had not stopped since leaving Calais, except to fill the fuel tank.
I was getting desperate for a hot drink and we needed to stretch our legs. Namur is just south of Brussels not far from Waterloo (Yes Napoleon’s Waterloo). A good stopping point because I did not want a road side café. I wanted to try what Belgians take for their tea time!
belgian waffles
As usual we head for the La Gare (train station) judging from the signs we were on the French speaking side so nothing to worry we can get by. If you were to ask me if I speak Francais its NON but… I can read menu well and get the gist of it. My husband always tell everybody, “Sha never get hungry she reads the menu well enough!”
pranzo prefissato -leciri, italy

The first few weeks after I arrived in La Spezia last October and was literally talking to the cranes for days, the boat was out of the water and outside the yard is just darkness.
After 6pm it was an eerie silence, when done with work around past 8pm, I would walk towards the sea and make my phone calls… and talk to more cranes!!!
It was a bit pathetic….

I had to find a way to discover the places around the area .I figured out that somewhere along the coast line will surely be pretty places to discover other than ship yards.
