panarea, aeolian islands
There is no day I do not think of all the travels I have done all over Italy, or rather all along the coast lines of Italy.
One of the memorable trip we did was cruising the Aeolian Islands (north of Sicily). One of the islands we visited was Isola di Panarea.

When the chef asked if I can go and help him do his shopping I gladly took the chance. I always love checking local produce.
We did not really expect something grand since this island has only an estimate of 280 residents but nothing beats local Sicilian fruits and vegetables.

Panarea is one of the chain of volcanic islands (Aeolian) in north Sicily and its only 3.4 km
ΒΡΑΣΤΑ ΠΑÎΖΑΡΙΑ

When we went to the laiki, there were so many selection of fruits and vegetables. One of my favourite salad lately(… how much I hated beets before) is boiled or steamed beet salad.
Either called Brasta Pratzaria (Boiled) or Pantzaria Salata ( Beet Salad).

Perhaps my dislike of beet rooted from the fact the first beet I tasted was pickled. When I lived with in the organic estate I have worked for in UK, the gardeners would bring selection of beet from the garden. Newly dug beet with earth still clinging on its roots.

Pleurotus Ostreatus & Nouveau Wine
I was horrified to wake up so late yesterday. I wanted to stay in last Friday night, watch dvd and read cookbooks. Does anyone read cookbooks? Well I do, I mean I flipped through pages and pages, marking page after page… then the phone rang at 9:30pm.
Want to come to the bar?

Nature’s Herbal Fragrances in Your Kitchen

Isn’t it a pleasure to gather fresh herbs for your soup, omelette, salads, and roasts?
Last weekend visit to the garden centre was such a delight that I could have brought all the herbs available. But we got the ones we mostly use, cilantro, oregano, mint and rosemary. I have forgotten the parsley though.
Herbs are the soul of good cooking and by imaginative use of their natural flavouring agents a simple fish or chicken will enliven by using these herbs.
Cilantro is for Mexican and Caribbean dishes, raw fish and fish.
Rosemary- It is indeed a versatile aromatic herb which I love on my roasts especially lamb. I think in most Mediterranean. In Italy the fishmongers always give you a sprig of rosemary when you buy fish.
Basil
Mint well the Cuban drink mojito uses a lot of mint. Mint can be use for sauces, lamb and fruit salad
Oregano is so common on Greek dishes. What is Greek food without this herb? Oros in Greek is mountain, this herb grows on high altitude on Mediterranean, mine might as well thrive on the 1st floor veranda. Oregano is spicy and pungent, great for sauces, pasta and grilled meat.
Oregano
Since I don’t have a garden my herbs are potted that turn the dull terrace something to appreciate and admire. I found some old pots that made a perfect little herb garden. Once I will get more plants, I am planning to put them on a wooden wine crates, which I found at the antique store not far from our flat.
Laiki’s Best Find

Laiki agora- is the weekly farmers market and my area is the middle of two zones, so I either can go on Tuesday at the end of Asklipio near Alexandras Ave. Or the Saturday at Kallidromio.
These little bananas caught my eye, with the sign
BANANES YA TA MORA XORIS XIMIKA.
Bananas for babies no chemicals!
Wow organic bananas!
Organic farming, as far as possible, avoid using unnecessary chemical sprays, meaning its healthy. So there I had a great banana with my non organic cereals
By the way it certainly taste better.
